Yet another little personal update

March 5, 2018

Some of y’all may have noticed my increased activity on this blog and in Stack Exchange. This is going to remain a pretty rare occurrence; I will say that I have been ill since October of last year, and have yet to fully recuperate.

In fact, the last two posts were drafts that had been sitting around for a while, and were edited only slightly before posting. Vertigo attacks have compelled me to only sit in front of the computer for no more than 10-15 minutes at a time, before I need to lie down. Because of this, I have not been able to write that much new content this year. (This is not to mention other maladies that all conspire to keep me bedridden for hours at a time.)

Even though I am still in poor health, I remain cautiously optimistic, that one of these days, my condition might improve, and I can go back to being slightly less sporadic in updating this blog.

Here’s hoping.

A little personal update

July 14, 2017

Some people may have been wondering about my increasingly frequent absences on the Internet. I am writing this in an attempt to assuage them.

Yes, I’m still here…

December 21, 2014

…and to those guys who showed concern and worry during my long-ish absence, I’m fine. Two important things, though: the hard drive containing a lot of my unpublished research crashed, including a good amount that I have not been able to back up; and, I have been quite busy with a (relatively) new job over the past few months, details of which I cannot discuss here.

In short, I’m fine, and I hope you guys will still be here when I’m actually back. Happy Holidays!

With concomitant apologies to Feynman

March 18, 2010

As can be surmised, I have been terribly uncreative in choosing a name for this weblog. I liked that Feynman book, and I’ve really been getting more and more interested in mathematics lately.

Yes… it’s another math blog.

On the other hand, a cursory search shows that there aren’t that many blogs that talk about numerical methods or special functions, which are the very parts of mathematics I will be dealing with in this weblog.

I will say in advance that I have no degree of any sort in mathematics; the descriptor “amateur” very much applies. Apart from the courses I have taken at school, I am mostly self-taught. If something I write in this blog lacks the appropriate sophistication, now you know why. ;) (I would very much appreciate being educated in new stuff, though.)

Still, I’m hoping some of the stuff I’ve been playing around with might be useful to other people, or at the very least make them think.

This would be a good time to end this christening entry. :) Happy trails!
